Product Description
Power – HKP™ Universal Relay Harnesses are used to connect aftermarket lighting systems to vehicles with very small gauge wiring that cannot supply the initial surge current required to light the bulbs reliably. This relay harness will provide 12 volts when needed for LED applications being used as daytime running lights. Both LED and HID require 12 volts to properly run, the HKP™ Universal Relay Harness provides 12 volts for both applications with ease.
Fix – If you are experiencing intermittent problems with one side of your HID system, the cause may be that not enough stable power is being delivered to the ballast on that side. This issue occurs mostly in vehicles with older batteries, and vehicles running high power drawing electronic accessories. Upon startup, HID ballasts draw more current (amperage) than a standard bulb to ignite the xenon gas inside of the bulbs, once fired though, they draw less than a stock bulb. It is the initial starting of the HID bulb that the relay will provide proper voltage that the vehicles factory wiring cannot.
Auto – Relay harnesses are known for fixing problems like: having one light out in cold weather or when intermittent light issues are experienced with “auto-on” or “automatic” headlight systems due to lack of proper voltage. By drawing power from the battery and simply using the vehicles factory wiring as a turn on or input trigger for the HID system, these issues are eliminated.
DRL – If you have daytime running lamps on your vehicle (required for all vehicles in Canada), you will need to use a relay harness to supply the HID kit with a full 12 volts oppose to the 6-9 volts the vehicle supplies when the daytime running lamps (DRLs) are engaged. Some vehicles will require additional capacitors and/or resistors to prevent bulb out error notifications when converting from factory halogen to HID and LED lighting systems.
